It's usually crisp and cool by late September in New England, at least in the morning and evenings, but this year? It feels more like an extension of August! I can't believe I am saying this but I'm looking forward to wearing sweaters and sipping hot toddies. I always appreciate the short season between summer and brisk fall when I can wear transitional clothing and not freeze or sweat my ass off. I'm loving this look and will be wearing it myself for as long as possible. Faithfull The Brand has some great pieces! Shelter + Ace Hardware + A DIY

The piece before  Most of us LOVE a good before and after! I'm here to share a goodie with you today. Last week my assistant, Lindsey, (who rocks by the way) and I transformed her television credenza. The RH piece had good bones but she wanted to update and brighten her family room. We had the kids help out with the vignette part of the painting project. It was a fun way to spend a sunny, Thursday afternoon in October and the kids had a blast. The result? Well let's take a look. You can also see the entire process on Ace Hardware's Instagram account Here we all are painting, spraying and gilding pumpkins. Because, anything gilded looks better! I'm teaching Emerson the tricks of the trade early. She loved using Amy Howard at Home's lacquer finish gloss. (Honestly, this paint is amazing) Here I am styling the vignette. Reading nook

In honor of Dr. Seuss's birthday today and the importance of reading to children, I celebrate the reading nook on Shelter! I've always wanted to carve out a cozy area in my home designated to this favorite past time. I used to read a ton before the invention of the i-phone. I need to get back to it!
