Crushing on..Dutch doors



When I was a child I always admired the "dutch door" entrance at my aunt and uncle's house. There was something so welcoming and comfortable about peeking in that top door. Here's a round up of some beauties!
I know, I know, they aren't overly practical here in New England with the bugs and long winters and all. We use storm doors around here but someday I'll have myself a dutch door!!
Ding, ding, ding! Winner, winner chicken dinner. I LOVE this one. I've started an "addition onto my ranchola inspo board and this dutch door made the cut! I image this as a back door off of a gorgeous mudroom/kitchen area.

Shelter + Ace Hardware + A DIY

The piece before  Most of us LOVE a good before and after! I'm here to share a goodie with you today. Last week my assistant, Lindsey, (who rocks by the way) and I transformed her television credenza. The RH piece had good bones but she wanted to update and brighten her family room. We had the kids help out with the vignette part of the painting project. It was a fun way to spend a sunny, Thursday afternoon in October and the kids had a blast. The result? Well let's take a look. You can also see the entire process on Ace Hardware's Instagram account Here we all are painting, spraying and gilding pumpkins. Because, anything gilded looks better! I'm teaching Emerson the tricks of the trade early. She loved using Amy Howard at Home's lacquer finish gloss. (Honestly, this paint is amazing) Here I am styling the vignette. Reading nook

In honor of Dr. Seuss's birthday today and the importance of reading to children, I celebrate the reading nook on Shelter! I've always wanted to carve out a cozy area in my home designated to this favorite past time. I used to read a ton before the invention of the i-phone. I need to get back to it!
