Cement tile a la Tom Scheerer.......

Image
I'm running around like crazy trying to button up all my busy biz work before I jet off to the Bahamas on Thursday! I thought it would be apropos to share a couple of Tom Scheerer's Bahamian kitchens. He resides there part of the year and also designed some of the public spaces at Lyford Cay Club . Long before Pinterest I had these images torn out of my favorite design magazines! (One of these kitchens is in Florida but really who is keeping track)...Besides the limed oak (still obsessed) I love, love, love the walls of cement tile. I MUST do this soon someplace! I swear once I finish my home the way I want it, I'll be itching to do another! Cement tiles will be in order some place. Here are three sources for cement tiles. one , two , three .

Love the look - airport style

Image
I'll be honest here, I'm all about comfort when traveling for vacations! Let's face it, planes are either too hot or too cold and flying is far from glamorous these days. (Unless you own a G6 - lucky you) I'm going to be organized with packing this year. Here's what I'll be wearing to the airport. I also drinks tons of water and travel with my design and fashion reads. Happy Weekend and Easter!!! I'd promise to be back with my Shelter Loves post today but I have 11 kids coming over to decorate Easter eggs. 1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5 // 6 // 7 //

Cottage love #34

Image
Here on Shelter, I'm always trying to mix it up with knock your sox off (you can tell I'm from Boston) design ideas, color combos and incredible moments! I came across Jayme Amour and Daniel Soder's home via Atlanta Magazine  . I was drawn to the "out of the box" style and funky color combinations. Designers tend to take more risks at home, we'd rather go bold than boring. My client's NEVER regret the design risks we take..... This entire dining room is so cool!! I would happily sip wine out here on a Friday evening! Pillows galore! I have a bit of a pillow (and chair) addiction myself.

Shelter Loves - Monday edition

Image
Happy Monday! Here's what I was loving last week! As of late, I have the beach on my brain. Let's look at the run through of my current favorites...... 1.  I love fun shoes that can be a conversation starter. These beaded lovies are so bright and cheery. Don't miss Calypso's big sale here ! Save $50 off of $250 etc. etc. That's a great savings! 2. Exactly!! 3. The warm weather won't be here for another couple of months, fresh flowers warm my heart.  4. I love the idea of a back yard party with wonderful friends, sparkly patio lights and lots of yummy food and drinks. 5. Sienna looks adorable in this little dress and booties. Booties and dresses are a great transitional Spring look. 6. I saved Dr. Lipman's book after reading about it on Goop (of course). My dear friend just finished the two week cleanse! I'm going to read this when I get back from my vacay. 7. What's better than a beautiful vignette? Rebecca de Ravenel's home is full of beautif

Two weeks from right now I'll be relaxing (I hope) on the beach in the Bahamas! We ended up booking a trip for an extra long weekend. I love the idea of stealing away even for a short amount of r and r. I get so inspired by travel and usually come home refreshed....Here's my look for a day at the beach. Any favorite destinations in The Bahamas? I'm all ears. 1 // 2 // 3 // 4 top and bottom // 5  - sunblock // 6 // 7 //

Tory's Tables...

Image
I could use a little cheering up on this gloomy day in Boston, how about you? It seems everything that Tory Burch gets her hands on becomes ultra chic. I especially love how she looks so amazing but is never over done. It is as if she doesn't try too hard: that to me is natural style. With Easter and Spring right around the corner I wanted to share some cheery inspo. I love Tory's ability to mix patterns and texture. I will say that her Dodie Thayer lettuce ware collection is on my wish list. I'll be purchasing some of her salad plates to mix with my white plates at some point. I adore vintage dish-ware, I just need to figure out where I am going to store it all! Purchase the lettuce ware here and the adorable wine glass pictured below (see note). ( Tory's collection of original Dodie Thayer lettuce ware. above -  Photo by Noa Griffel ) This glass is available for purchase on Tory's site.

Love the look - Sunday best

Image
Easter Sunday kind of kicks off Spring in New England. It is early this year, so I am hoping to see daffodil buds and green grass soon. Here is an Easter Sunday look. It's elegant but still comfy enough to whip up Easter brunch in. I may just purchase the entire look myself!! Cheers, happy weekend! xo 1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5 //

Cottage Love #33

Image
Eye candy, inspiration and a bit of design advice, I honestly hope you hop on my blog for those and an occasional tip, because in the end we all need an escape from the daily grind. That is precisely why I share my cottage love series . If I could make the world a happier (more functional) place with my posts and interior designs, well then I have I've succeeded professionally. I've mentioned my love of laid back luxe. I often hear similar requests from my clients who live in both very large and small homes: "we want it to be inviting and not too serious", "chic but laid back", "practical but beautiful". I love my job and helping each and every one of them. I'm off to the Design Center today but first I want to share a fabulous home.  I happened across the Bell's Malibu beach cottage this morning, designed by Windsor Smith, it is all that and lots more. I love southern California style and have been trying to bring a touch of the aesthetic

Since I skipped out of town a little early last Friday to enjoy one last ski weekend this season, I wanted to share my design loves with you today!! 1. Lauren Santo Domingo. This contributing editor of Vogue and co-founder of Moda Operandi is always dressed to kill. I LOVE her style. She's a classic beauty but her looks are always modern. My dear friend actually went to high school with her. 2. This is a toughie but a goodie!! Seriously, think about it?? 3. This cottage and patio are adorable. 4. Pair a couple chunky bracelets with a black sexy top and pants and you are ready to go from the office to cocktails! I am purchasing this staple .  5. Have you checked out Banana's shoe collection this Spring?? If not, you should. I am contemplating these for an upcoming trip ! 6. Lulu Dk's home is featured on OKL. She is fabulous: her home, prints, art...I am definitely inspired by this chic Mama.  Off to a meeting about a mini spa design - how fun!!

Love the look

Happy Thursday! I've been good about not drinking wine or eating carbs Monday-Wed, it's a part of my newer and healthier lifestyle routine!! I am however heading out tonight to support a friend at a cancer fundraiser. It's not a dressy event but I'll wear waxed jeans and a cute top. Rosie always looks so stunning. I was inspired by her today, I love this out on the town look! Cheers! Also, be sure to check out ShopBop's Spring sale!! A number of the items including the shoes and waxed jeans are from SB! 1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5 // 6 / / 7 // 8 //

Reading nook

Image
In honor of Dr. Seuss's birthday today and the importance of reading to children, I celebrate the reading nook on Shelter! I've always wanted to carve out a cozy area in my home designated to this favorite past time. I used to read a ton before the invention of the i-phone. I need to get back to it!
